The ride is dominated by the road climb, but the singletrack descent is long enough to warrant the effort.
Youngs Rock and Moon Point are two prominent features of Warner Mountain, overlooking steep drainages to Willamette Middle Fork.
Youngs Rock Tr3685 is a 17% grade, too steep for most riders to ascend. Use of FR2129 reduces the climb to a still-tough 9% grade, aside from shuttling.
Ding: The rating takes a hit due to 12mi of forest roads needed to begin the singletrack portion of the ride.
The technical difficulty is amplified somewhat by the 17% grade, but the downhill ride is generally considered fast and smooth.
As with any trail which has an average grade in excess of 10%, most of the ride is spent getting to the singletrack.
The really great downhill rides are those with reasonable singletrack access to the top, such as nearby Hardesty Tr3469, Deschutes NF Tumalo Ridge Tr25 or Gifford Pinchot NF Smith Cr Tr225.
With a 17% grade and an 8% FR2127 grade, twice as many miles are spent on the ascent than the descent.
Better to spend that time climbing singletrack than eating dust on some fireroad.
Moon Point Tr3688 extends from FR439 to...Moon Point. Youngs Rock Tr3685 starts at the intersection which leads out to the point.
