BLM
BLM has expanded the Cline Buttes Recreation Area (CBRA) trail system, with the western section open to ORV and the rest for hiking, equestrian and bike use.
The additional trailheads are noted on the area map. The BLM page has a link to a photo gallery.
Connector trails into Deschutes canyon are for pedestrian use only. BLM manages the area for wildlife habitat, with raptors which use the cliffs of the Deschutes River Canyon for nest sites and the Maston area for foraging. The area noted on the map and to the east of the Deschutes River is closed seasonally for raptor nesting.
The equestrian trails generally run parallel to the biking trails, so please observe the usual precautions if encountering a horse on the trail, get off the trail, stand still, speak to the rider..
Loop Directions
The terrain is covered on the Area map, and also see the BLM Map, which contains more information of terrain difficulty and restrictions.
Use the Barr Road Staging Area for access. The Fryrear Rd TH are for hiking and access to Dry Canyon, which is off limits to OHV. There are several other access roads but they are not intended to be used as a trailhead.
