The loop options vary in length from 11mi to 24mi.

Some downhill riders willing to deal with the hassle of driving to Tyee Mountain on FR5700/FR5713 use that route to shuttle Billy Ridge Tr1413 or Mad River Tr1409.

Ding: Some of these connector trails are infrequently maintained, so be sure to ask the local ranger district about trail conditions.

Another option is to bring a small chainsaw and some good boots.

Due to high elevation, these trails are closed until mid-July, so be sure to check with the forest service for current conditions.

Mad River Tr1409 is the ascent for all loops, with a 4.3mi climb and 5% incline over an 1100' elevation gain.

Covered on the Mad Rvr Orv Tr1409 page, Tyee Ridge Orv Tr1415 can also be used as a lollipop loop option, to turn the usually moderate Mad River Orv Tr1409 ride into something more epic.

Starting from the Maverick Saddle TH, there are four progressively intense loop options:

1. Covered in the below trail guide, the nearly-epic 20mi (5200' ascent) Billy Cr Tr1416 loop includes most of Tyee Ridge Orv Tr1415 and has a more rideable descent than the Cougar Ridge Descent.

2. The shortest return is on Cougar Mt Orv Tr1420, an 11mi (2300' ascent) CW lollipop.

Jimmy Creek Tr1419 offers a steeper downhill then Cougar Mt Orv Tr1420.

3. The 16.5mi (3600' ascent) Cougar Ridge loop includes a 30% switchback descent to Lower Mad River.

4. The epic 24mi (6300' ascent) Billy Rdg Tr1413 loop includes all of Tyee Ridge Tr1415 and includes a half-mile crazy-steep, 50% final plunge (in)to Mad River.

Directions: NW Forest Pass required right at the TH. SR207 towards Lake Wenatchee. After crossing the Wenatchee River, go right on Chiwawa Valley Rd. .4mi after crossing the Chiwawa Rvr, and just past the Thousand Trails CG, turn left onto FR61. Go 1.7mi and turn right onto FR6101 and go 3.3mi to the Deer Cr CG and turn left to stay on FR6101 then go 2.8mi to Maverick Saddle. If you miss the first FR6101 turnoff, you will reach the Grouse Cr CG. Turn around and try again. View Larger Map. No Map?.
