XC Skiing

XC Skiers will find most of these trails moderately challenging, with increased skill and stamina needed for Outback and The Ridge.

Bergman Gulch Tr1297 is designated for snowmobile use and is not groomed.

The southern slopes of Outback and Somewhere to Ride can become drifted and difficult to ski.

Winter recreation day passes are $10 and season passes are $70, available at the Chelan Ranger Station.

Most of the trails are groomed, including FR8021.

Contact the Chelan Ranger Station for current conditions.

NOAA Weather Conditions

Sno-Park, Northwest Forest Pass and Golden Age passes are not accepted.

The hillside terrain has enough variation and length to make it worth riding if staying in the area, but otherwise is not a destination ride.

There is no defined route for these trails, with Switchback Alley at the lowest elevation and Wells Summit (near 8010 on The Ridge) as the ride summit.

The guide describes a 15.5mi ride which is certainly not the only way these trails can be ridden. Far East, Big Critter and Outback could be added, to increase the ride to 22mi.

The terrain is moderate enough to not require a shuttle, but shuttling from North Junction to the Switchback Alley TH would be easy to set up and avoid most of the climbing.

Bergman Gulch Tr1297 is closed to biking until July 1st, to protect nesting areas.

Most of the trail intersections have maps posted.

Directions: Go on SR150 (Manson Highway) from Chelan, noting the brown XC Ski signs along the way. Go right onto Boyd Rd and go to Cooper Gulch Rd, past the Echo Valley Ski Area. Go right onto FR8021 (Washington Creek Rd) and continue 1.1mi to FR130, then go right and continue on FR130 for 1mi to the TH. View Larger Map. No Map?.
