The trail is 'little', at a mere 4.5mi out to Hanley Gap, so is sometimes extended by riding out FR2010 to Squaw Mountain and into Newt Gulch, then back.

Those preferring singletrack to forest road riding might do a shuttle with Mule Mt Tr919, although the Mule Mountain loop is a good ride by itself.

Stein Butte Tr929 is a better option for those seeking a substantial ridge ride.

With 8 creek crossings in the first 3mi, be ready for wet feet. Fortunately the trail traverses headwaters, so the crossings are not terribly wet.

Directions: From Applegate Ranger Station go 8mi on Co. Rd. 859S (upper applegate rd) to Applegate Dam. Turn left onto FR1075 and go 1.5mi to FR490 (french gulch rd), then go 2mi to the TH. View Larger Map. No Map?.
