Collings Mountain Tr943 is a straightforward (somewhat short) CW loop, either starting at the TH or from the Grouse Creek Tr941 TH (riding the section of Da-Ku-Be-Te-De Tr940 as a warmup for the fairly steep Collings Mt. Tr943 ascent).

The 1.5mi descent is steep and fast, ending at the Hart-Tish CG after passing by an abandoned mining cabin and inactive sasquatch trap then under the Applegate Road.

The trail offers great views of Applegate Lake while passing through old growth Douglas Fir, Sugar and Ponderosa pine forest, with a mix of Pacific Madrone, White and Saddler Oak. The area around Watkins CG burned in 1981.

Grouse Tr941 is a short 1.8mi loop which could be added to Collings Mt Tr943. The loop gains 700' in a mile, passing through a Douglas Fir, Sugar and Ponderosa pine forest.

This ride could be combined with Payette Tr970 for a full Applegate Lake tour.

Directions: See Map. There is shoulder parking just past the Hart-Tish park, where the trail passes below Applegate Road. View Larger Map. No Map?.
