Silver Star Tr180 is a ridgeline trail, one of the star-shaped Silver Star mountain ridges.
Silver Star Area Trails
Near Vancouver, the Silver Star area trails are popular with hikers, bikers and equestrians. As a result, the trails get a lot of use and receive good maintenance. There is enough terrain variety and trail length to create decent weekend destination rides, but not the kind of epic rides found further into the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
Silver Star Tr180 can be ridden as an OAB ride to Chinook Tr180B, but is also the core trail for several loop rides, most notably as part of the Grouse Creek Vista loop ride.
The southern TH is the best starting point for an OAB ride, with the Indian Pit Tr180E spur option.
North of Chinook Tr180B, the trail descends to the FR4109 TH, making the Chinook intersection a good turnaround point.
A good shuttle option is to start from the southern TH and ride to Chinook Tr180B, returning on Tarbell to the Grouse Creek Vista TH.
To reach the northern TH: Go on NE Sunset Falls Rd to the Sunset CG. Go right at the Y intersection, onto FR4100 and go 3.3mi to FR4109.
Make a switchback right turn onto FR4109 and go 3.4mi to the Silver Star TH, passing L1100 on the way.
Note: FR4109 is currently a rough road and Google Maps does not show it connecting to FR4100.
Alternate access is from the Tarbell TH, which would lengthen the ride considerably, or use Dole Valley Rd and L1100 to reach FR4109, to minimize the time on FR4109.
Nearby Bells Mt is a good trail for those seeking easier terrain, but good shuttle opportunities on the other trails creates opportunities for advanced beginners.
